The only place on the internet for alternative perspectives on AI

AI skepticism

There are two main pillars of AI that dominate the headlines. AI Accelerationists believe that Generative AI progress will continue and even achieve exponential returns, transcending to superintelligence. AI Doomers have a similar contention, believing that Generative AI will continue to have exponential progress, but believe that humanity and life on Earth will be destroyed.

These two camps are at odds with one another, though importantly, they do not allow for nuanced discussion. Even a question of “Is Generative AI really achieving exponential progress?” is met with backlash and dismissal. This site was created for all the alternative, non-mainstream perspectives of AI, the ones that are not tolerated by the two main camps.

WHY WE EXIST

To Challenge Mainstream Beliefs and Discussion

Fundamentally different approaches that are non-LLM-based, or engaging in Indigenous values and how they can interact with AI are conversations that are important and rare. Well, until now.

To Understand The Hidden Reality of Generative AI

Do you know about the massive computational costs, investment bubble, environmental impact, and technical limitations that Big AI companies and Generative AI influencers don’t discuss publicly? Probably not, but now you can.

To Connect with Other AI Skeptics and Thinkers

Join a community of researchers, professionals, and thought leaders who value nuanced discussion over polarized camps. Share insights, discuss real-world implications, and build networks beyond the hype cycle.

Most don’t know about the widespread problems with Generative AI.

Popular ai skeptics

“Obviously, this cannot go on forever. Just as the disappointing performance of GPT-5 has ended the AGI hype, price increases will end other types of AI hype as seen with Anthropic’s (and others) recently instituted limits, which not surprisingly is angering users. Those users had created a business based on very cheap AI software costs and now those prices are going up. They will have to create a different business, and it may take time to find successful one. Even if the AI software companies had set software 50% or even 20% below costs, price increases will change the economic equation for those users.”

“It should be clear, to anyone who does not have a vested interest in promoting generative AI hype, that LLMs are already on the flat part of the curve. Big Tech can cover the planet with fusion-powered datacenters, and chatbots will still be saying stupid, dangerous things and information workers will still be sitting at their desks waiting for the weekend.”

The second issue is that by writing scenarios that trade so heavily on China-US conflict, they are feeding the worst fears of hawks, both in the US and China — escalating how much money and power both sides will give to companies racing as fast as possible, and reduce investments in efforts to mitigate the risks of building AI that we are scarcely able to control. Tall tales about the imminence of AGI aren’t slowing down the AI race dynamic that the authors of AI-2027 want to mitigate; they are speeding that very dynamic up.”

FAQs

What is AI Skepticism?

AI Skepticism is a critical approach to evaluating artificial intelligence claims, progress, and predictions. We question both the uncritical hype and apocalyptic fears, focusing instead on evidence-based analysis of what AI can and cannot do, its real-world impacts, and the motivations behind various narratives.

How do you avoid becoming just another echo chamber?

We actively and always welcome diverse perspectives, including those from AI researchers, non-industry professionals, and people without an academic background. We prioritize evidence over ideology, encourage respectful debate, and regularly challenge our own assumptions. Members are expected to engage with opposing viewpoints constructively.

How do you handle disagreement and debate within the community?

Healthy disagreement is essential to critical thinking. Debates should focus on evidence, logic, and substantive arguments rather than personal attacks. We moderate discussions to ensure they remain productive and respectful, while allowing for robust intellectual exchange.

Do I need a technical background to contribute meaningfully?

Not at all. AI impacts society, policy, labor, ethics, and culture in ways that require diverse expertise. We value perspectives from journalists, ethicists, policymakers, workers, and anyone affected by Generative AI systems. Technical knowledge helps but isn’t required for meaningful participation.

What specific AI narratives do you challenge most often?

We question claims about imminent AGI, exponential capability improvements, AI solving major global problems, and the inevitability of current AI trajectories. We also challenge narratives that dismiss legitimate concerns about AI’s current harms as “Luddite” thinking.

What can I expect from this community?

Thoughtful analysis of AI developments, discussion of research limitations, examination of corporate claims, exploration of policy implications, and connection with others who value nuanced discourse. We focus on understanding rather than cheerleading or fear-mongering.
